  • Rs. 45.00

UNTREATED AND OPEN POLLINATED SEEDS

(Brassica oleracea)

Grows best in Winter

This unusual cabbage is an old, popular heirloom variety that produces crisp, sweet and flavour-filled heads earlier than most other varieties. The cabbage head is conical with leaves that are folded and pointed and have a smooth texture. The Wakefield cabbage "heads" more readily than other varieties in mildly cool weather and doesn't require extremely cold weather to be productive.

It has a small core and the leaves are ideal both for raw consumption in salads or for cooking. Harvesting the heads early ensures a sweeter flavour.

Seeds should be sown in a nursery and transplanted into the soil in approximately 21-25 days. Heads are ready to harvest after 70 days in mild to cool weather. It can be planted close in smaller gardens because of its compact form.

Ideally grown in cooler weather (requires cooler weather to head) and sunny, well drained conditions.
