Pumpkin Desi Seeds - OG
ORGANIC AND OPEN POLLINATED SEEDS
Cucurbita maxima
Desi Pumpkin is a traditional and highly versatile vegetable widely grown in India. This easy-to-grow pumpkin variety produces medium-sized, round fruits with slightly ribbed, thick orange skin, prized for its rich flavour and nutritional value. The plant also offers edible young leaves, tender shoot-tips, seeds, flowers, and tendrils, making it a complete addition to any organic vegetable garden in India.
Ideal for home gardening and small-scale farming, Desi Pumpkin thrives in full sun with well-drained, fertile soil enriched with manure. It requires ample space to spread and can be trained to grow on trellises or even roofs, making it perfect for small gardens or terrace farming. The plant takes about 3-4 months to produce a harvest. A ready-to-harves,t mature pumpkin develops a hard rind with a woody stem, and sounds hollow when tapped. Once harvested, the fruits can be stored for 3-4 months, if they are not punctured by insects.
A staple in Indian kitchens, this pumpkin variety is used in curries, sweets, soups, and stir-fries, offering a healthy source of vitamins, minerals, and fibre.
