ORGANIC AND OPEN POLLINATED SEEDS

Trichosanthes cucumerina

Snake Gourd (chichinda, padwal, or serpent gourd) is a fast-growing, warm-season vine known for its strikingly long, slender, and slightly twisted fruits that can grow up to 3 feet. The tender green fruits are best harvested young, when their mild cucumber-like flavour makes them perfect for curries, stir-fries, and soups. As they mature, the pulp turns red and seeds harden, and in some regions, the red pulp is even used as a tomato substitute.

The plant produces beautiful white, lace-like flowers that bloom at night, adding ornamental value to your garden while attracting pollinators. Snake Gourd vines need support, such as a trellis or fence, to produce long, straight fruits.

Best grown in tropical and subtropical climates across India, Snake Gourd thrives in well-drained sandy loam or loamy soils rich in organic matter. It requires full sunlight, regular watering, and light soil coverage during sowing. With its vigorous growth and high yield, this vegetable is an excellent choice for kitchen gardens, terrace gardening, and small farms.
