The Calabrese variety is an early producer which develops a dark bluish-green central head, and then also grows multiple side shoots after the central head is harvested. The heads them selves are medium-sized, round, rich green and the plant is fairly resistant to colded temperatures.

Broccoli, like other crucifer is a cool weather crop and does not produce heads unless the temperature drops to below 20 degrees Centigrade during its "heading" period. Takes 70-75 days to spread.
