(Origanum vulgare)
An aromatic culinary herb, grown for its fresh flavour in Mediterranean cooking. It belongs to the mint family and grows as a perennial in its native climate. In the warm and humid tropics it can be grown as a productive annual that will need fresh planting after each monsoon.
This plant can be grown very successfully in both containers and in the ground. It likes full sun, well draining but loamy soil. Water deeply, but let the soil dry out before each watering.
Pick tender tips for use or make cuttings from longer stems.
